I’m Tom Diserens, a biologist living in Białowieża Primeval Forest in eastern Poland. I work at the Mammal Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, where I research the ecology and conservation of wolves.

Over time I’ve been discovering just how much nature has been preserved in Poland. Nature that has mostly been wiped out over successive generations of development in the west. But now rapid economic growth and reckless politicians are threatening it here too. Through my work I hope to contribute a little to its conservation, so that society keeps hold of its few remaining wild places for future generations.

As there is little published in English about wildlife in Poland, I’ve decided to help fill the gap. Over time as I gather stories about the wolves and wildlife that inhabit Poland, I’ll post them up here. I hope you’ll find the site useful.
